Catholic thinkers in science

Check out this fascinating Wikipedia article, List of Christian Thinkers in Science. The Catholic ones are highlighted in red, including:

  • Mendel—Catholic priest/biologist, "father of genetics"
  • Cauchy—mathematician and Catholic
  • Lemaître—Catholic priest/physicist who proposed the Big Bang theory
  • and many others

  • If that very short list interests you, check out the book "How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization" by Thomas E. Woods.

There have been many, many Catholic scientists. Some of the very old Cathedrals were designed as astronomy laboratories, many craters on the moon are named for Jesuits, etc, etc, etc. The very scientific method itself has something to owe to Catholic philosophy and thought.
